As Carl Jung states:
“The privilege of a lifetime is to
become who you truly are”
It is all about taking time to reflect. We are not given this opportunity often in life. Reflection usually comes after a trauma or negative experience. My intention is to remind you of the daily opportunities to self-reflect.
I believe mindfulness to your heart’s desire is the most important act we can submit ourselves to. It may actually prevent us from many heartaches too. Relationships are based on honesty and vulnerability and being our authentic selves. If you fail to be authentic, your relationships will fail.
Re-inventing retirement requires one to look into and fix your mental health (attitudes, repressing emotions), your physical health (addictions, healthy diet and exercise), and your spiritual health. (Do you really believe it is only about you? What is the foundation of your faith? What do you believe? And are you living your life based on this belief or are you stuck in your EGO).
The creation of Covid woke many of us up. It was at this time many started their shadow work, but we always have the NOW moment to begin. Asking yourself these honest questions is the start to finding an answer you can live with. It is also the start to re-inventing yourself and the life you honestly desire. Your answers to these questions will lead you down a path of Self-Love where you will learn “we cannot love others until we learn to love ourselves”. Loving others when we are not healed only results in Ego love where you manipulate and abuse others to get what you want. Unconditional love is “other focused”. It is the type of love that is centered on service to others first, compromise and boundaries.
By the age of retirement one would think we would have figured this out but I see many people struggling with low self-esteem, abandonment issues, narcissistic personality disorders, and low coping skills. Many relationships end at this time because one or both of the individuals have not done their shadow work. This has been my experience. So now I have to re-invent what retirement looks like for a single woman in her 60’s.
Retirement should be the stage of life you look forward to. You have worked, saved, and feel ready to relax and enjoy the things you had to put aside while raising your families. This is the bubble we all have been forced fed. Unfortunately, it is not reality. Many have not done the inner, relationship or spiritual work. Money comes and goes with such force now; saving is impossible if it is not a disciplined act.
My inner journey has reflected back to me. I am not reacting to my trauma I am responding to it.
I am moving fully forward with a positive attitude to seek new friendships, find my tribe of people who resonate with me and yes to do all the things I have wanted to do but never had the time to. I have done my shadow work and I am a spiritual warrior.
Follow me, a resilient single woman re-inventing retirement as it unfolds one opportunity or choice at a time.
